Measuring hsCRP—An Important Part of a Comprehensive Risk Profile or a Clinically Redundant Practice?

چکیده

The median values for hsCRP are 2.5 mg/l (American women) and 1.5 mg/l (American men) [2]. Typical recommendations are to measure hsCRP in ‘‘intermediate risk’’ patients to help classify them into either a higher or lower risk category [3,4]. Intermediate risk is usually, and arbitrarily, described as either a 10%–20% [3,4] or 5%–20% [5,6] 10year risk of developing coronary heart disease (CHD). It has been suggested that hsCRP levels,1, 1–3, or .3 mg/l represent lower, moderate, and higher relative risk of future heart disease, respectively.

The effect of eight-week aerobic training in water, with or without consumption of Bunium persicum on the levels of hs-CRP and lipid profile in postmenopausal inactive women

Background and Objective: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the most important factors of mortality in Postmenopausal women and is most prevalent in postmenopausal women due to the reduced protective role of estrogen. So, this research was done with the aim of effect of 8-week aerobic exercise in water (AW) with or without consumption of Bunium persicum (BP) in levels of hsCRP and lipid pr...

High-sensitivity C-reactive protein and cardiovascular disease: a resolute belief or an elusive link?

The role of inflammation in the propagation of atherosclerosis and susceptibility to cardiovascular (CV) events is well established. Of the wide array of inflammatory biomarkers that have been studied, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) has received the most attention for its use in screening and risk reclassification and as a predictor of clinical response to statin therapy. Although ...

The clinical utility of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein in cardiovascular disease and the potential implication of JUPITER on current practice guidelines.

BACKGROUND High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) testing is relatively inexpensive and has been shown to predict the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and diabetes in multiple patient groups, including those treated with statin therapy. JUPITER (Justification for the Use of Statins in Primary Prevention: An Intervention Trial Evaluating Rosuvastatin) is a recently completed large multi...

Clinical usefulness of very high and very low levels of C-reactive protein across the full range of Framingham Risk Scores.

BACKGROUND High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) is a strong independent risk factor for cardiovascular events, and levels of hsCRP of <1, 1 to <3, and > or =3 mg/L have been suggested to define low-, moderate-, and high-risk groups. However, the positive predictive value of very low (<0.5 mg/L) and very high levels of hsCRP (>10.0 mg/L) is uncertain. METHODS AND RESULTS Baseline levels...
